The World Series of Poker has been held since 1970 and so is the longest running poker tournament in the world. The gold bracelet is well known as poker’s top prize. The tournament also provides millions of dollars in prize money. Last year, the WSOP attracted over 75 000 players from over a hundred countries world wide. It also awarded the highest amount in prize money with over 192 million dollars. This year there will be a new event on the 1st of July. It will be a 1 million dollar buy-in bracelet tournament which will be a three day event with the largest ever first place prize. A donation of 11.10% from the tournament will be given to the One Drop organisation (One Drop is a non-governmental international organisation based in Canada which promotes access to water for all). The 2012 World Series of Poker is open to any player over the age of 21 and one of the first events this year will be a WSOP gold bracelet 1500$ no-limit Hold’em tournament. There will be 92 extra tables this year bringing the total to 470 tables. Five levels will be played each day. There will also be new events and extra tables for cash games along with one-day tournaments. This year the WSOP will take place within a shorter time frame as there will be three starting days due to the extra tables. It is also hoped that having the Main Event three days shorter will encourage more players to participate as costs will be lower. Several of the major hotels on the strip will offer special accommodation rates to players.
