The Resorts Casino owner Morris Bailey has said that the combining of the Resorts brand with Mohegan’s excellent management reputation should lead to future success for the Resorts Casino Hotel. This sentiment is echoed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, Mitchell Etess who has said that their investment has come at a good time since they have been interested in entering the Atlantic City gaming market for a long time. The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority plans to carry out in the Resorts Casino Hotel many of the proven ideas which have made their two Mohegan Sun casino complexes so successful.
The Resorts Casino Hotel on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey is the oldest casino in Atlantic City. The casino opened in May 1978 and was completely reorganised when it was bought in 2010 for 34 million dollars by Dennis Gomes, a well known Atlantic City casino operator and the New York based property magnate Morris Bailey.
The new owners introduced a 1920’s theme. The Resorts casino is one of the smallest of the Atlantic City casinos.Earlier this year one of the owners of the Resorts Casino Hotel died and so it was necessary to find new investors for the casino. It was recently announced that the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority will have a major interest in the casino under a new partnership deal involving management and investment in the Resorts Casino. The Resorts casino will be operated by Mohegan Gaming Advisors which is a part of the Mohegan Gaming Authority. It was set up last year as a management and consultancy group for casino and entertainment operators. The Resorts Casino Hotel stands to benefit greatly from the input of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the deal also means that the Mohegan tribe is the first Native American tribe to operate a casino in Atlantic City. The tribe is highly regarded for its casino operations. It operates the Mohegan Sun Casino complex in Connecticut, which with over 350 000 feet of space for gaming is considered one of the largest casinos in the United States. The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority also owns a second casino and entertainment complex, the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania where it is in the process of constructing a hotel and convention centre.
