Since the state of Delaware is now in the testing phase before launching its full online casinos this week, it looks as if it will remain ahead of New Jersey in the ongoing race to operate the first full legal internet casino in the United States. Nevada has had online casinos operating since the spring of this year but these only offer poker since that is the only legal online game allowed in the state. There are, at the moment, only three states where legislation has been passed to permit intra state online gambling, Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey. New Jersey is to launch its internet casinos on the 26th of November.
There are three land based casinos in Delaware, Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, Harrington Raceway and Casino and Delaware Park. Following a change in federal legislation passed for all the states last year allowing online gambling intrastate, the Delaware legislature passed its own online gambling laws. Under this legislation, the three casinos are allowed to operate internet casinos only within the state. Back in August, free online casinos offering no-money slot machines, online roulette, blackjack and poker were launched. These free games were available to players from any country and this will still be true even when the full real money online casinos are operational later this month but only to Delaware residents. The operators who are to launch the real money internet casinos looked on these free games as a marketing aid as the hope is that players in Delaware who have played the free games will have enjoyed them so much that they will visit the online casinos to play with real money. With a testing phase involving a panel of up to 75 players and a proposed launch date of the first full complement of legal online casino games in the United States programmed for the 8th of November, it seems that Delaware will overtake New Jersey in the legal internet casino race. Nevada has only legalised online poker and not a full range of casino games. In Delaware, 888 Holdings in partnership with Scientific Games will operate the state’s online casinos.
